On the occasion of the beginning of the Hindu New Year 'Samvat 2081', stock exchanges conducted special Murat trading for an hour (6 pm to 7 pm) on Friday evening. Sensex and Nifty started the year 2081 with gains on the back of buying by investors.

The Sensex opened on a strong note at 80,023.75, up 635 points (previous close 79,389.06). The index, which lost some gains on selling pressure, touched a low of 79,655.55. It finally closed at 79,724.12 with a gain of 335.06 points. The Nifty rose 99 points to settle at 24,304.35. 27 out of 30 shares of the Sensex gained.

Loss of 553 points on Thursday: Indices ended 'Samvat 2080' with losses on Thursday as IT shares traded lower. The Sensex lost 553.12 points to close at 79,389.06, while the Nifty lost 135.50 points to settle at 24,205.35 on foreign investors' selling. Overall, BSE Sensex gained 14,484.38 points (22.31%) and Nifty 4,780 points (24.60%) for the year 2080. The total market value of listed companies on BSE, which is considered the wealth of investors, rose by Rs 124.42 lakh crore to Rs 444.71 lakh crore ($5.29 lakh crore).

Our foreign exchange reserves declined by $3.463 billion to $684.805 billion in the week ended October 25.
